The Difference Between Misspeaking And Lying

By BlackJack

Sometimes the English language can be a complicated thing to master. I understand. There are many words that have two meanings and/or spellings. Take for instance the word "two" - it can be spelled several ways and each has a different meaning (to, too, two). It can get downright confusing!

String together a couple of these words and throw in the difficulties of the human mind and you can see how it's possible to misspeak. For instance it's easy to understand how Hillary Clinton could confuse "sniper fire" with the common phrase "8-year old girl with a poem".

And then there's the story of poor John McCain in Iraq. After years of trying to memorize the Bush-speak terms (WMD, evil-doers, Axis of Evil, etc.) he was bound to trip over the phrase "al Qaeda in Iraq", who are Sunni Muslim, with the confusing phrase "Iran", who are predominately Shia Muslim.

With the close similarity of that kind of terminology it's bound to happen - and happen repeatedly even after being corrected. Heck, Hillary has been repeating her Bosnia story for months and only was able to correct her mistake after video evidence was presented to her.

Maybe we should add a spelling and vocabulary section to the Presidential Test - whenever we figure out who administers it.

In addition to submitting their tax returns, maybe we should also ask for their SAT scores. Did they even have those when McCain was in high school?
