When Gays Attack - Sally Kern Lectures On The Gay Agenda

Oklahoma Republican State Rep. Sally Kern, whose husband is a Southern Baptist Minister, apparently has the inside track on the "Homosexual Agenda". I wish she'd let the Gay community know about it because none of my gay friends seem to have gotten the memo.

While speaking to a Republican group in January, she equated both sexual orientation and religion with terrorism.

Lowlights:

"I honestly think it's the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam."

"The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation."

"What's happening now is they're going after, in schools, two-year-olds."

"You know why they're trying to get early childhood education? They want to get our young children into the government schools so they can indoctrinate them."

As reported by Joe Solonese of the Human Rights Campaign: "Rep. Kern's speech is all the more troubling given the recent spate of hate violence against gay and transgender youth. Last month in California, a 15-year-old boy, Lawrence King, who suffered taunting and bullying by his classmates because of his sexual orientation, was killed by one of those classmates – a 14-year-old boy. The week after Lawrence King's death saw the murder of another teen, this time a 17-year-old transgender youth in Fort Lauderdale, Florida."

I'm constantly amazed that these simple-minded bigots can find a way to use the Bible, which is filled with Jesus' messages of loving enemies and neighbors and practicing tolerance, to victimize and terrorize fellow Americans. In perpetuating this hate speech she is encourage more violence against Americans - that sounds a lot like fundamentalist terrorism to me.

The biggest threat to our nation is hatred and fear.

Action:

• Write to Oklahoma's leaders immediately and tell them Kern's remarks must not be tolerated.
• Add your name to the Victory Fund's open letter to Rep. Sally Kern.
