The McCain Speech Brought Me To Tears

By BlackJack

My dad taught me to cry and I've never been embarrassed by it. I get choked up almost every time I hear the national anthem. I can't make it through a Memorial Day service with dry eyes. What can I say? I'm a patriot.

McCain's speech tonight brought on those tears as well. It was not the part when John McCain was speaking, however. It was when the camera panned to an upper corner of the Target Center to a young man holding a sign. The sign read "You can't win an occupation". When the camera went back to that corner the sign read "McCain Votes Against Vets". The young man holding the sign was wearing an Iraq Veterans Against The War t-shirt. On his left arm a U.S.M.C. tattoo.

The right-wing crowd was too distracted to watch McCain, and eventually he became distracted as well. The crowd began chanting "USA! USA!" which only added a bit of tragic irony. The "Support Our Troops" crowd was unwittingly shouting down a veteran of the war they wanted to continue financing.

The last camera shot of the young man showed several angry men heading up the stairs to his position. I wanted to see how they would find a way to honor him for his service as they carted him off in shackles. Perhaps we'll hear more from this brave young American serviceman as the night unfolds.

God bless America. I'm so proud of this young fellow veteran. Semper Fi!!!

Update: Interview with McCain Heckler Adam Kokesh

Update2: The best irony? Adam is a Republican. He wasn't a left-wing heckler. He's a Ron Paul supporter who said he will vote for Bob Barr this fall. He got in as a guest of a Ron Paul delegate. He's a fellow VFP member. Good job Adam.

I agree with you about the young Iraq war vet holding the sign. He is a true American hero in more ways than one and he recognizes that killing is so not patriotic, but speaking out against injustice is. I wish more vets could be like that and I applaud his courage. My boyfriend has done four, count them, four tours to Iraq and he disagrees with the US's decision to take the country to war, a pointless and unnecessary one at that. I hope he was not arrested simply for holding a sign and expressing an antithetical point of view. My bf has suffered from severe PTSD and watched his buddies die, held his best friend in his arms before he passed at the tender age of 24. Good job on your comments!

Great post. Thanks for watching the speech, so I didn't have to.

Update 3#: Adam Kokesh is running for Congress!

Yes this was my fellow Marine Adam Kokesh. He's running for Congress in New Mexico and has a money bomb July 4th. Adam's been by the house here in FL a few times and my brother went out there to help out for a bit. Adam is definitely someone we need in Congress. Imagine a big muscular Ron Paul with tattoos on his forearms and not afraid to get in anybody's face. That's Adam Kokesh.
